Feb 17: Bring a Friend Night

A bit after Valentine's, but it was still our Valentine's Day Bring-a-Friend Night

Friday, May 8, 2009

Seems logical to break up the year into 3 sections: Sep-Dec (4 months, tho both Sept & Dec are not full meeting months); Jan-Spring Break (2 1/2 months, but busy months); and Spring Break-end of June (3 1/2 months, definitely busy months!)
More to be added!

GIRL GUIDE SONGS

Everywhere We Go - an Echo Song
Everywhere we go
People always ask us
Who we are
And where we come from
and this is what we tell them
We are the Girl Guides
The mighty mighty Girl Guides
And if you can’t hear us
We’ll sing a little louder
(repeat several times, getting louder and louder. The last time through, change the last line to: "You must be deaf"

Fire’s Burning (Campfire Opening) Round
Fire’s burning (x2)
Draw nearer (x2)
In the gloaming (x2)
Come sing and be merry

Kookaburra
Kookaburra sits on the old gum tree
Merry, merry king of the bush is he
Laugh, Kookaburra, Laugh, Kookaburra
How gay your life must be
Kookaburra sits on the old gum tree
Eating all the gumdrops he can see
Stop, Kookaburra, stop, Kookaburra
Save some gum for me.

Land of the Silver Birch Songs for Canadian Girl Guides,
1 Land of the silver birch, home of the beaver
Where still the mighty moose wanders at will
Chorus:
Blue lake and rocky shore
I will return once more
Boom did-dy ah-da, Boom did-dy ah-da,
Boom did-dy ah-da, boo-oo-om
2 My hear is sick for thee, heere in the low lands
I will return to thee, hills of the North
3 Swift as a silver fish, canoe of birch bark
By mighty waterways carry me forth.
4 There where the blue lake lies I’ll set my wigwam
Close to the water’s edge, silent and still.

Make New Friends
Make new friends
And keep the old
One is silver
And the other’s gold
The circle’s round
It has no end
That’s how long
I want to be your friend.

ON MY HONOUR

Chorus
On my honour I will try
There’s a duty to be done and I say “Aye”
There’s a reason here for a reason above.

My honour is to try and my duty is to love.

No one needs to know my name,
If I hurt someone, then I’m to blame.
If I’ve helped someone, then I’ve helped me
And that’s the way that it should be.

Chorus

I’ve tucked away a song or two;
If you’re feeling low, there’s one for you.
If you need a friend, then I will come.
There’s plenty more where I’ve come from.

Chorus

Come with me where the fire burns bright,
We can even see better by its own light
We can find more meaning in a campfire glow
Than we’ve ever found in a year or so.

Chorus

We’ve a promise to always keep,
And sing “Day Is Done” before we sleep.
We’re Girl Guides together, and when we’re gone,
We’ll still be a-trying and a-singing this song.

Chorus

....more songs to come!

2009 - 2010 GUIDING YEAR and HOW TO USE THIS BLOG

To get everyone excited about this, the 100th BIRTHDAY OF GIRL GUIDES OF CANADA, we plan to put a few bits about activities we have planned already. Some activities are actually being planned, others are just 'ideas' so far:

* Campfire Meeting
* Fall Camp: 2 nights at Camp Creina
* Visit Senior's Centre
* Craft Night
* Hikes!
* Field Trips
* Guest Speakers
* Bridge with other levels (Sparks, Brownies, Pathfinders)
* Christmas Carolling
* Service Projects: some same as last year, some new
* Beach Day
* Badges!
*100th Birthday Sleepover at GM Place in Vancouver in May 2010

HOW TO USE THIS BLOG:
This is the SECOND year of our Chase River Guides blog, so as long as I keep up to date and at least do one entry each month it should be in date order. The other way to find something you are looking for is to use the LABELS: I do try to keep the list of labels fairly short, and within logical categories....for example, if you are looking for a particular camp, then look under Camps. If you are looking for a meeting before Christmas, look under Sept-Dec Meetings..Enjoy!
